How do the monthly quotas work?

For Free Users, you have up to 5 plant additions using AI Add functionality, and 5 manual plant additions per month.

For Supporters, you have 15 plant additions per month using AI Add functionality, and unlimited manual plant additions.

Monthly quotas for AI and manual plant additions reset on the 1st of every month. We implement these quotas to manage the server resources and environmental footprint of our AI-powered features.

Garden Design

How do I design my garden layout?

Use the Design tab to add planters and texts. You can drag and drop planters to arrange them exactly as they sit in your real-world garden using Move mode. You can then add specific plants into these planters from your plant library.

Can I change the measurement units?

Yes. In the Settings (Units & Regions) menu, you can toggle between Metric (cm, kg) and Imperial (in, lb). Please note that data is stored in metric, so changing this setting only affects how information is displayed to you.

What is the RHS Hardiness Scale?

The RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) scale is a standard for plant hardiness in the UK. In the Settings (Units & Regions) menu, you can choose to display plant hardiness using this official scale or as a temperature range in Celsius or Fahrenheit depending on your preference.

Plant Library

How does "AI Add" work?

The AI Add feature allows you to search for a plant that is not already in the official plant library. Our AI will generate detailed gardening data (planting spacing, height, hardiness, sun and water requirements, etc.) for you.

Why is there a limit on AI queries?

Every AI query consumes real-world energy and water to power the data centres. To keep our collective footprint low, our team review AI-generated and manual plant additions from the SowGentle community before the new plant additions join our global database. This allows us to build collective knowledge with limited AI usage.

What should I do if a plant is listed as "Unknown"?

This happens rarely but if you import data or experience a sync issue that leaves plants labeled as "Unknown", go to Settings > Data & Export and use the Repair / Re-Link Data tool. This will look for matches in our official database and reconnect your garden records.

You may also remap the "Unknown" plants with the correct plant in the Planter Contents panel in the Design tab.

Garden Tasks

How do tasks work?

The Tasks section allows you to set custom to-dos for your garden. You can mark them as complete as you go, helping you stay on top of sowing and harvesting schedules. Auto-generated tasks also remind you to buy seeds 1-2 months before sowing if they aren't in your pouch.

How do I set first and last frost days?

You can set first and last frost days in Settings > Units and Regions. Once set up, auto reminders for first and last frosts will appear in the Tasks tab.

Garden Impact & Journal

How do I use the Garden Journal?

The journal is your space to record the story of your garden. Each entry can be tagged with the weather, how you felt that day, and specific plants involved. This helps you track growth patterns and seasonal changes over the years.

Can I export my journal?

Yes! You can export your journal as a plain text (TXT) file for your own records or as a beautifully formatted PDF (available for Supporters) which includes your weather tags and plant highlights.

Finance & Harvest

How does the Finance Log help me?

You can record your gardening expenses (seeds, tools, soil) and harvest (by weight and supermarket value). This helps you see the true cost and value of your home-grown food.

How does currency conversion work?

Our base logic stores data in GBP. If you use a different currency, you can update the exchange rate in Settings > Units and Regions. We provide a "Check latest rate" button that fetches current market exchange rate or you can input your preferred rate. The exchange rate is used for display and input conversion. Changing the exchange rate will affect the display value of your historic data.

The following currencies are availble: GBP, USD, CAD, EUR, CHF, DKK, NOK, SEK, PLN, CZK, HUF, HKD, AUD, NZD.
